Scott Guttery grew up in Southwest Florida. He graduated from Bishop Verot High school and went on to play college basketball at Centre College in Danville, KY. He moved back to Fort Myers in 2001. Since returning, he has coached JV basketball at Dunbar and Bishop Verot. He was the head girl’s coach at Bishop Verot in 2004-2005, leading the team to the regional quarterfinal. Guttery was then hired to start up the basketball program at Ida Baker High School in Cape Coral, FL. He coached there from 2005-2007 and helped set the foundation of a successful program.
In April of 2007, Guttery was hired as the head boy's basketball coach at Fort Myers High School. In his first year with the Green Wave, Guttery led the team to a district 5A-15 championship, LCAC championship, and sweet 16 appearance. All 5 seniors that played on Guttery's first Green Wave team went on to college. In his second year with the Green Wave, Guttery led the team to another district 5A-15 championship and was voted the FACA 5A coach of the year for the district. In his third season, he led Fort Myers to SWFL's first ever boy's basketball state championship! Along the way, he won another district title and a Regional title. For his accomplishments during the 2010 season, Guttery was named the FACA 4A-11 coach of the year, SFABC coach of the year, and Florida's 4A coach of the year. In 2011, Guttery led the team to a 20-11 record, District 4A-11 championship, LCAC championship, and Elite 8 appearance. In 4 years with the Green Wave, Guttery has not lost a district game (regular season or post-season). Guttery's overall record at FMHS is 94 -29.
Scott lives in Fort Myers with his wife, Becky. They have two boys, Reece (6 years old) & Trae (5 year old) who already love the game of basketball as much as their dad.
